This issue of “Steel Construction – Design and Research” closes the first 3 year cycle of continuous publication of a journal dedicated to all relevant aspects of steel construction. Launching a new journal in a highly competitive business environment is no minor achievement. During these 3 years, several milestones were reached that provide a solid basis for the establishment of a leading journal in this field.

From its inception, “Steel Construction” combined several specific features. Firstly, “Steel Construction” covers leading edge scientific and technical developments; in this sense, it corresponds to a classical, peer-reviewed scientific journal endorsed by the bicentennial quality stamp of John Wiley & Sons and its subsidiary Ernst & Sohn. Secondly, “Steel Construction” covers products and projects, providing all the stakeholders of the steel construction industry with up-to-date quality information. Thirdly, “Steel Construction” delivers an insight of steel construction business news on a global scale. Finally, last but not least, “Steel Construction” is the official journal of ECCS, a reputed organization with more than 50 years that is the leading force behind all steel-related normative developments in Europe.
