For the extension of the Metro T Third Line in San Francisco, 2.7 km of tunnels and four new stations will be built. At the Chinatown Station, a cross-cut cavern was excavated by the side drift method. A 27 m long AT–139 pipe umbrella was used to secure the crosscut and the two side drifts. (Photo: DSI Underground)
