Ömer Bucak's 65th Birthday
On March 5th Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ömer Bucak celebrated his 65th birthday. Since 1995 he has been lecturing as Professor and Head of the Laboratory for Steel and Light Metal Structures of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich. We, his friends, colleagues and students can hardly imagine letting him go into retirement at the end of the 2012 summer semester.
The most important research projects to which he committed himself concerned load-bearing glued connection in structural glass construction, steel/glass composites, transparent noise reduction barriers for railroad tracks, bent panes of glass in construction, scale effects in steel construction, reduction factors in EC3 for hollow section nodes made of high-strength steel and steel crane structures subject to fatigue loading.
He contributes his expertise in various committees, e.g. as member of the DVS working group on analysis and simulation of adhesive techniques, of the DIN 18008 standards committee (Glas in construction - design rules and recommendations) and of the working group for the Eurocode standards committee (Groups TC 6 and TC 10).
