Manuscript Templates and Online Submission
Our template complies with the layout guidelines of Ernst & Sohn GmbH and is designed for you to write your manuscript directly in the template. You can download the template using the link at the end of the text block. It should be used for the journals listed below. These journals are connected to the manuscript management and submission system ScholarOne Manuscripts (S1M). Each of the journal names below links to the submission portal for the relevant journal:
Notes on ScholarOne
You must have an author account on this page to submit a contribution. When submitting a manuscript, the author decides which category it fits (see manuscript template for details also regarding length/number of characters):
Article: A research-focussed contribution (first publication) – this will be peer reviewed by independent experts before publication, the final decision being made by the Editor in Chief ( Length: in general up to 28,000; tables and figures 12 to 16).
Report: An engineering contribution with a practical focus (includes second publications) – acceptance is directly by the editorial office and does not involve a peer review process (Length: between 17,500 and 24,000 characters; tables and figures 10 to 14).

Open Access
The journals civil engineering design (CEND), ce/papers (cepa) and Steel Construction (STCO) offer to publish your paper in open access. More details.
Research and International Visibility
civil engineering design is an e-only journal in English. It aims to provide scientists and researchers in civil engineering, construction, design, maintenance, life-cycle behaviour and other areas of structural engineering a way to publish in an independent journal quickly, catering to the needs of the international research community. This journal offers open access.
Online Submission
ce/papers – The online collection of conference papers in civil engineering
ce/papers is part of Ernst & Sohn’s open access portfolio. This journal gathers the proceedings from a conference into a single issue, published in a permanent online archive. This ensures the proceedings remain available to a broarder aufience, are easy to search through and can be cited by the scientific community using a DOI.
Hans Kannewitz will be happy to answer any questions you have on this.
