Geomechanics and Tunnelling 02/15

cover_2478_geotechnics-and-tunnelling_02-15Cover Story: Construction logistics, and in particular the clearing of excavation spoil, are of great importance in tunnelling. For the construction of the Bibra Tunnel, a decision was made to set up a crushing plant feeding a tunnel conveyor to transport the material out of the tunnel.

This enabled the use of several wheeled loaders from the faces of both bores filling the crushing plant at the same time, which saved a whole fleet of dumpers. (photo: DB AG Frank Kniestedt)
