The new Nikachhu hydropower station in Bhutan has an installed capacity of 118 MW and is supplied with 25.45 m³/s via a 12,144 m long, 4 m diameter head race tunnel. Extensive tunnelling works were required for the project. In addition to a diversion tunnel, two adits were built near the dam to be able to access the desilting chambers. Five additional adits had to be built for the head race tunnel, and three adits, a ventilation tunnel, and a main access tunnel were required in the powerhouse. DSI Underground supplied Mai groutmixing pumps and DSI Hollow Bar Spiles type R32 and T76 for this tunnel project. (photo: DSI Underground)
