Honorary Doctorate for Prof. Manfred Curbach
On 15 November 2011 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Curbach received an honorary doctorate from the Civil Engineering Department of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.
He is one of the leading scientists in the field of reinforced and prestressed concrete construction in the German-speaking world. The certificate was presented by Prof. Helmut J. Schmidt, President of TU Kaiserslautern, during a ceremony. Along with the Dean of the department, Prof. Wolfgang Kurz, he was able to welcome quite a large number of guests. The laudation was held by Prof. Jürgen Schnell, Head of the Institute of Concrete Structures and Structural Engineering.
The honorary title was awarded for Prof. Manfred Curbach's extraordinary scientific successes in structural engineering, his achievements in consequently implementing his research into construction practice and his exemplary personality. As Speaker of the special research group on textile concrete within the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) he has contributed most significantly in the basic research for this new construction method.
Curbach also holds a number of honorary posts. Formerly Chair of the VDI-Gesellschaft Bautechnik, he has been charing the boarding of the Deutscher Ausschuss für Stahlbeton since 2004 which constitutes the highest honorary office nationally in concrete construction. He is also member of the advisory board of Ernst & Sohn's very own journal "Beton und Stahlbeton".
