Himbächel Viaduct in Hesse becomes an "historic monument of the civil engineering heritage in Germany"

The 250-meter long Himbächel Viaduct is the highest and also longest stone masonry bridge in Hesse. When constructed (1880-1881) it was Germany's tallest single-story viaduct. Built across the Himbächel valley from roughly hewn stone blocks, this arch bridge is a technical and aesthetic masterpiece of railway bridge construction during the 19th century.
