| Abstract: | Johann Wilhelm Schwedler, der am 9. Juni 1894 gestorben ist, steht durch die Einführung wissenschaftlich begründeter Konstruktionsmethoden in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts am Beginn des modernen Stahlbaus. Im Zenit seines Schaffens war er die oberste Prüfinstanz für alle Brücken, Dachbinder und Kuppeln aus Eisen in Preußen. Aus enger Verküpfung von Realitätssinn und wissenschaftlichem Anspruch suchte er nach dem Kompromiß zuwischen immer präziserer Bestimmung der inneren Kräfte immer kühnerer Tragwerke und den konkreten Bedingungen des Bauens. |
