Abstract:

In order to upgrade to the latest safety regulations, a rescue tunnel is being constructed parallel to the existing 12.9 km long, single bore Fréjus Tunnel. A particular challenge to the mechanised tunnel drive is the alignment through squeezing rock mass in places. In order to overcome the squeezing sections, various technical and organisational measures have been implemented during the course of the project.
