Title:	Protection of bridge piers against ship collision
Abstract:	This article outlines the development of pier protection against ship collision over the last 25 years. The calculation of impact forces is developed from general formulas for equivalent loads, based on collision tests, to numerical FEM simulations. Comparisons between the results are given. Examples of the structural protection of 18 bridges are described.
